PRESS RELEASE • 27 FEBRUARY 2018
Mettā and 1880 to Connect their Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
Mettā and 1880 believe that transformational magic happens when you connect innovators together. Mettā and 1880 are excited to announce a reciprocal agreement to increase the potential for cross-border connections and serendipitous collaborations by inviting their like-minded members to access each other's spaces and communities. Bringing together two growing innovation ecosystems, this partnership hopes to deliver even more than the sum of its parts, multiplying positive impacts throughout the region.
Mettā, as a connector of people, resources, and ideas, has been influencing the way entrepreneurs connect and interact since 2016. Its flagship location in the heart of Hong Kong's buzzing Lan Kwai Fong neighbourhood brings together entrepreneurs, corporate innovators, creatives and government agencies. Through numerous thought-provoking events and the digital platform Mettā Connect, members are able to gain insights and find new collaborators.
Partnering with Singapore's 1880 will give its members access to a dynamic, creative space designed by Timothy Oulton, featuring co-working space Bardo; urban wellness centre Mei; all-day-dining restaurant Leonie's; café-cum-cocktail bar The Double; and the Members' Lounge. This is just one way Mettā is striving to link up innovators throughout the growing markets of Asia and Africa to enable best-in-class idea sharing and cross-border business partnerships.
Niamh Given, Chief Growth Officer said, "Mettā and 1880 have a shared vision to bring like-minded people together to innovate and collaborate with a purpose." 30 Mettā members recently came together to create the Circular Community, aimed at changing the wasteful mindset of Hong Kong residents with interactive workshops and pop-up clothing exchanges. These artfully crafted spaces encourage members to form connections and spearhead initiatives that benefit the community and lead to the creation of new businesses.
"The trend of mass urbanisation that has characterised the past 40 years has led to the breakdown of social groups such as tight-knit families, and communities within a residential neighbourhood. Additionally, it certainly does not help that technology has allowed more people to work remotely and without social interaction. This is why bringing interesting, like-minded people together to create dialogue becomes ever more critical - something 1880 is encouraging not just within the setting of the club, but within society at large." said Luke Jones, CEO of 1880.
Through the sharing of knowledge and collaboration across borders, it will open members up to more diverse ideas and a whole new set of thinking; where new opportunities arise to connect more people and strengthen the ecosystem as a whole.
Launched in 2016, Mettā is a space, a platform and a community. But most importantly, Mettā is a movement committed to creating impact by connecting the boldest and brightest visionaries across the globe. We believe the future of business is collaborative. Innovation is not an outcome, but a journey. One that is strongest when collaborated on by many. And so, we created Mettā.
Mettā is built around three principles: community, live events, and a space that the global entrepreneurial community can call home with locations in Hong Kong and Nairobi. Visit us at https://www.metta.co/.
1880 is a born-in-Singapore members' club that hopes to inspire conversations that impact society in a positive way. It does this by creating a diverse community of members who represent the collective brains of creativity, drive and passion. In particular, it aspires to embrace the lifestyle of the modern woman. The four pillars of the club are membership, design, events and hospitality. Further setting it apart is its unique formula of combining a social club and co-working space. It attempts to blur the line between work and life by seamlessly integrating the two concepts within its premises.
